THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SAILING DESTINATIONS IN EUROPE.
IN ITALY
AMALFI COAST
The Amalfi Coast is wonderful! Why? The main reasons are the enchanting coastal villages perched on the hills, the wonderful sea, the interesting traditions and the tasty food.
Indeed, the whole area is excellent for sailing, including the Bay of Naples and the Sorrento Peninsula.
Here you can admire the islands of Ischia and Capri with Faraglioni, 3 imposing stacks rising from the sea, or explore the Punta Campanella nature reserve.
Plus, there are plenty of lovely beaches. Each town has at least one main beach, equipped and usually quite crowded, but in the surroundings you can find wild coves where you can relax.
And then, don’t forget to visit some sea caves. The most famous is the Blue Grotto, so called for the incredible light effects: it seems that the sea is illuminated from below.
SICILY
Being the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily is inevitably one of the best sailing destinations in Italy and Europe.
To the north east, not far from Messina, are the Aeolian Islands. These are seven subtropical volcanic islands surrounded by countless islets. The most famous is Stromboli, the lighthouse of the Mediterranean, which is an active volcano 924 m (3,032 ft) high. Then there is Alicudi, a small island inhabited by only 100 people but tremendously beautiful and wild.
To the west, in front of Marsala, are the Egadi Islands: Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo. Here you will find lovely Mediterranean villages, unforgettable beaches such as Cala Rossa or Cala Azzurra in Favignana, sea caves and a perfect sea for snorkeling.
IN SPAIN
THE BALEARIC ISLANDS
When it comes to sailing in Spain, the Balearic Islands are the best place.
These are an archipelago in the western Mediterranean Sea, very beautiful and also popular. Each island has its own personality.
Ibiza is famous for the parties, the hippy atmosphere and the breathtaking views. Sailing around the island is particularly satisfying because there are no dangers, the water is always calm and the sun shines 300 days a year.
Formentera is also great for the nightlife, the white beaches and the crystal clear sea. As it is smaller than Ibiza it is also easier to organize a boat tour to discover all the best beaches, from the most famous ones, such as Illetes or Cala Saona, to the small lonely coves.
Instead, Mallorca is the right island for those looking for culture and sport. Here there are towns with a long history, but also mountains marked by trekking routes and mysterious underground caves. Obviously, there is no shortage of crowded white beaches or small hidden coves. And the sea is always fantastic.
On the other hand, Menorca is less famous than the previous islands. Yet, it is wonderful, precisely because it is the only Balearic island that resists the mass tourism. In addition to the naturalistic attractions, Menorca has a remarkable archaeological heritage of 500 ancient megaliths.
IN GREECE
With more than 6000 islands, Greece should deserve an article of its own.
Among the most beautiful sailing destinations in Greece are the Ionian Islands: Corfu, Paxos, Lefkàda, Ithaca, Cefalonia, Zakynthos, Cythera.
