An Overview of Michelin-starred Restaurants on the Costa Brava
In the Alt Empordà area you will find two Michelin-starred restaurants: in Llançà is the Miramar restaurant; Inland, in Castelló d’Empúries, is Emporium.
Girona is the city of the renowned risotrante El Celler de Can Roca and Massana; while in Tossa de Mar you find La Cuina de Can Simón.
There are many more Michelin-starred restaurants on the Costa Brava: Bo.TiC in Corçà, Castell de Peralada, Els Tinars in Llagostera, Ca l’Enric in Vall de Bianya, Fonda Xesc in Gombrèn, Les Cols in Olot, and Les Magnòlies in Arbúcies.
Some of these restaurants are family-owned and many mix innovation with tradition for a culinary journey that shows the more authentic side of the Costa Brava combined with the creativity of great chefs.
Taking a cue from the Michelin Guide website, let’s go find out about 5 of them.
El Celler de Can Roca
Girona’s Celler de Can Roca is a worldwide culinary icon. Chef Joan Roca and his brothers Jordi and Josep take traditional flavors and use them for innovative and daring culinary experiments.
Since 2009, El Celler de Can Roca has no less than three Michelin stars, plus other awards, including Best Restaurant in the World from “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants” (2013 and 2015).
Jordi Roca was also awarded Best Pastry Chef in the World in 2014, and Best Chef in the World in 2016.
Miramar
Looking for a Michelin-starred restaurant in Costa Brava that gives you the best view of the sea? The right place is the two-star Miramar restaurant in Llançà.
Chef Paco Pérez and his team draw strong inspiration for their dishes from the coastal environment and seafood. There is no shortage of creativity and imagination.
At Miramar you can choose between two culinary offerings: a tasting menu focused on innovation and the chef’s creations, or a menu featuring traditional dishes.
Massana
We return to Girona for chef Pere Massana‘s Michelin-starred restaurant Massana.
Massana is a family-run restaurant that has, however, embraced innovation and creativity, developing its own culinary identity.
The tasting menu focuses on family and local ties through flavors that may recall old memories.
La Cuina de Can Simón
In Tossa de Mar, La Cuina de Can Simón is in an exceptional location steeped in history that alone is worth the visit.
Chef Xavi Lores has been able to give a contemporary twist to the town’s rich culinary heritage, earning a Michelin star.
You can choose from different menus and an excellent selection of wines.
Empòrium
The Empòrium restaurant is located in Castelló d’Empúries, inside a hotel, and is guided by the cheefs Salvador Jordà Vidal, Joan Jordà, and Màrius Jordà, who represent the third and fourth generations of the family that has been running the restaurant since 1965.
Empòrium combines sea and mountain cuisine, creating dishes that have earned it a Michelin star. You can choose between a simple menu and a tasting menu depending on the type of culinary experience you want to have.
